Splitting workbooks into per-OpU files with The Press

Once the monthly workbooks are formatted, The Press's split step cuts them into one file per OpU using the shared OpU List on the right side of the page.

Selecting files to split

Under Split — Select Formatted Files & Output Folder, use Select next to each of the six sources — ROIC, Net Position, Job Loss MTD, Job Loss YTD, Indirect Cost, Safety Cost — to pick the formatted .xlsx files. You don't need all six; splitting works with whatever subset you select. Indirect Cost and Safety Cost each have their own Zoom % and Set Print Area fields, since their output sheets are built fresh rather than copied from an existing per-OpU sheet.

Where the output goes

Click Select Folder to write the split files straight to a folder on your machine (your browser will prompt for read/write permission). If you skip this, the files come down as normal browser downloads instead.

The OpU List

The OpU List table is shared — anyone using The Press sees and edits the same list, not a personal copy. Each entry has a code (e.g. MW) and, optionally, one or more company code Number(s) (e.g. 111, or 980, 825). ROIC/Net Position/Job Loss are matched by sheet name, but Indirect Cost and Safety Cost lay their data out in column groups labeled by company code number instead of OpU code — that's what the Number(s) field is for.

Checking the match before you split

Click Preview Match to see, for whichever of Indirect Cost / Safety Cost you've selected, which OpU each column group resolves to — including a warning if a number is unmatched, or if two OpUs share the same number. It's read-only and doesn't touch any output, so it's safe to run before every split.

Running it

Enter a Period (required — you'll get an error without one) and click Split Excel Files. All formatting from the source files carries over exactly.
