Department tagging on Indirect Contracts (and why "Department Breakdown" is gone)
If you remember an older "Department Breakdown" feature on the Indirect Contracts tab that let you forecast separate numbers per department, it was removed on 2026-08-05 and replaced with something different: Department tagging.
What exists today
A Department dropdown on the Indirect Contracts tab lets you tag:
- A whole contract, on its own row, or
- An individual Job/Phase, once expanded via the normal Job/Phase drill-down
with a Department from the shared department list. This is visible and editable by any user — it's not a personal preference.
What this is NOT
This is a classification tag — it records which department a contract (or job/phase) belongs to. It is not a place to enter separate forecast numbers per department. If you're looking for a way to split a contract's Hrs/Rev/Cost into per-department amounts, that mechanism no longer exists on Indirect Contracts.
Why it changed
The old version stored a personal list of departments in Preferences, plus an on/off toggle, plus a "+" expand that fetched genuinely separate forecast rows per department. That was judged to be solving the wrong problem — what people actually needed was a way to label which department a contract belongs to, not a second layer of numbers to maintain. The old Preferences "Departments" tab, its toggle, and its per-department forecast rows were all removed at the same time.
SG&A's own Department Breakdown is unaffected
This change was specific to Indirect Contracts. The separate SG&A tab still has its own, unrelated Department Breakdown preference (Preferences
SG&A Departments) — that one still works exactly as before and wasn't touched by this change.
